Faculty of Philosophy



Faculty of Philosophy in Nikšiæ is the oldest higher education institution in Montenegro. Although it can search for its roots in the educational institutions established in the second half of 19th century, the Faculty officially developed out of the Training
College which began work in Cetinje in 1947. This school functioned in Nikšiæ since 1963 under the name Pedagogical Academy. In 1977 it was transformed
into the Teacher Training Faculty which was renamed the Faculty of Philosophy in 1988.
The Faculty of Philosophy in Nikšiæ represents a complex educational and scientific institution which organizes and realizes undergraduate, specialist, postgraduate and doctoral studies.
The Faculty of Philosophy offers the following study groups:

  • Serbian language and South-Slav literatures

  • Italian language and literature
  • French language and literature

  • Pre-school education – applied studies
  • Psychology
Studies at the Faculty of Philosophy last from six semesters for undergraduate studies to sixteen semesters, concluding with doctoral studies. They are organized according to the curricula determined separately for each study group.
