BIO-ICT presentation at University of Montenegro

BIO-ICT Centre of Excellence presented at the occasion of marking World Science Day for Peace and Development at the University of Montenegro

World Science Day for Peace and Development was marked at the University of Montenegro on 11 November 2016. Rector Radmila Vojvodić pointed out that the celebration was the chance to streghthen academic research of the University of Montenegro, but also the opportunity to invoke a more active contribution of all actors in society in the field of science.

BIO-ICT Director Professor Igor Radusinović presented to the academia and the public the results of BIO-ICT Centre emphasising its multidisciplinarity. BIO-ICT Centre brings together the most important research institutes in Montenegro: Institute for Marine Biology, Institute for Public Health, Biotechnical Faculty and Faculty of Electrical Engineering, which is the leading institution, as well as two international research institutions and two successful Montenegrin companies COGImar and Green House Jovović.

"We have modernized and established 15 new scientific and research laboratories, both in open and closed areas. I particularly want to stress out the new laboratories at the Institute for Marine Biology - "The Wet Laboratory" and the new laboratory for process engineering at the Faculty of Electrical Enigineering," said Radusinović.

The research guidelines of these laboratories, he explained, are within four scientific priority areas: environmental protection, agriculture, human health and information and communication technologies.

"In our work so far we have created more than 10 technological solutions, more than 70 scientific research papers have been published in renowned international journals and at prestigious international conferences and five patents have been applied to the National Patent Office, and one patent will be applied to the European Patent Office. 6 master theses and 6 doctoral dissertations were completed,” Professor Radusinović highlighted. He concluded that our joint work in multidisciplinary groups has created an atmosphere that strengthened the sense of belonging to Montenegro and to the best scientific research community, which is the University of Montenegro.

Our young researchers from BIO-ICT had short presentations about their current work and activities in the BIO-ICT Centre.

Mielna Erceg, BIO-ICT researcher and associate at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, received the University of Montenegro award for scientific-research work of this year from Rector Radmila Vojvodić.
