Learning outcomes:

After passing this exam, the students will be able to: 1. Master the basic knowledge about dialectology as a linguistic discipline:the subject of studying, the evolution and formation of dialectology. They will be able to understand its significance and relationship towards other linguistic disciplines. Students are empowered to cope with in current dialectological literature. 2. Properly understand the ideas of dialect and dialectism, as well as types of dialectisms (traditional and modern terminology of linguistic geography). Theoretical models (dialectical geography, structural dialectology, urban dialectology, the theory of variability, geolinguistics) are recognised through an overview of the development of dialectology. 3. Have basic knowledge of the characteristics, limits, historical development and internal differentiation of the pronunciations of the Shtokavian dialectical zone. They will know the classification of Shtokavianpronunciations, the direction of basic isoglossesand dialectical idioms in the framework of the South Slavic language region. They will be able to understand the relationship between the Shtokavian and Chakaviandialectsand South Slavic languages, in synchronic and diachronicapproaches. 4. Carry out independent dialectological research on the field. According to methodological guidelines, students themselves will collect dialectological data (record conversations with peopleon the field) and analyse an inventory of problems at all levels of language structure. 5. Understand literary texts written in particular dialects. 6. In a modern way, give lessons on dialectology and functionally link the achievements of this science with related linguistic disciplines.
