EXCHANGE PROGRAMMES AT UNIVERSITY OF MONTENEGRO (UoM)

SUPPORT TO INCOMING STUDENTS

 

Welcome to the University of Montenegro!

The University of Montenegro was founded in 1974 and is the oldest institution of higher education in Montenegro. It has 19 faculties and three institutes, with an academic community of about 17,000 active students at all levels of study, and more than 1,000 academic, professional and other staff.

As an exchange student, you can spend one or two semesters at the University of Montenegro.

You can come for an exchange through one of the following programmes:

  •  Erasmus+
  •  Erasmus Mundus programme
  •  CEEPUS programme
  •  Bilateral agreements

In order to become an exchange student at the University of Montenegro you should first be nominated by your home university to the International Relations and Mobility Office of the University of Montenegro (IRMO). You can find the necessary information about the nomination procedure at your home university.

After you are nominated by your home university, you will be contacted by the IRMO of the University of Montenegro and you will be required to submit an application form.

In addition to the application form you should submit:

  • CV
  • Motivation letter
  • Passport
  • Transcript of records
  •  Draft of the Learning agreement
  •  Recommendation letter by a professor from your home faculty

Deadlines for submitting the application form are the following:

  •     15 May for the winter semester
  •     30 November for the summer semester

   Rectorate building

The IRMO at the central level is located in the Rectorate building of the UoM.  Mobility officers, as well as administrative assistants in the IRMO are responsible for the implementation of Erasmus+ ICM projects. IRMO of the UoM actively supports students in gaining the necessary legal documents for the stay abroad, such as invitation letters for the visa application, as well as in finding accommodation in Montenegro. Incoming students take part in the event called “Welcome day” and are assisted by coordinators and mobility assistants. Incoming staff are provided with information, counselling and assistance for all questions that are relevant for their stay in Montenegro, from the entry in the country, the search for accommodation, organization of mobility.

The IRMO cooperates closely with all university units and other institutions. In cooperation with ESN Podgorica candidate section it also organizes regular events and excursions for incoming students.

International Relations Coordinators, as well as Vice-deans for Teaching at respective university departments are in charge of providing support in academic issues to the incoming students.

ACADEMIC OFFER IN ENGLISH

GRADING SYSTEM AT UoM

Most of the lectures at the UoM are held in Montenegrin language. A certain number of courses are provided in English language in the form of lectures organized as individual consultations with respective professors.

The UoM offers two fully accredited programmes:

 1. Bachelor Academic Programme in Bussines and Economics at the Faculty of Economics.

2. PhD programme in English language - International PhD Studies in Sustainable Development.

For studying at the UoM, language knowledge of Montenegrin in level B1 (CEFR) or English in B2 level (CEFR) is required.

Teaching at UoM has been organized in line with the principles of the Bologna Declaration since 2004 and ECTS system has been in use at our institution since that time. Since 2017 all programmes are organized in accordance with the 3+2+3 model (3 years of bachelor + 2 years of postgraduate + 3 years of doctoral studies) (except for the regulated professions and teacher training).

The UoM uses the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS). The optimal student workload is 40 hours per week, which corresponds to the sum of 60 ECTS during one study year/ 30 ECTS per semester. 

According to the Statute of the UoM, and the Higher Education Law, the success of students at exams and other forms of knowledge assessment is assessed in accordance with the ECTS scale of grades: A, B, C, D, E, and F.

MONTENEGRIN LANGUAGE COURSE FOR EXCHANGE STUDENTS

ESN PODGORICA CS

For incoming students, UoM offers free of charge Montenegrin language course lasting one semester.

The course is held twice a week in Rectorate and it is free of charge. In the end, students obtain a Certificate of Attendance.

 

 

UoM promotes and organises activities that allow mobile students and staff to be civically engaged with the local community. It is widely known that the Erasmus+ Programme fosters a positive attitude towards multicultural awareness and a stronger sense of European identity amongst mobile students.

 All mobile students are invited to take part in ESN Podgorica candidate section activities. 

During mobility all incoming students are strongly encouraged to participate in extra-curricular activities with local students and staff by joining University student organisations, sports clubs, or becoming a volunteer.

VISA AND RESIDENCE PERMIT FOR EU CITIZENS

The University of Montenegro can provid accommodation in the student dormitory.

In order to obtain a room in the new dormitory, you should send an e-mail with the dates of your arrival and departure to the e-mail address irouom@ucg.ac.me

The price for a bed in a double room is 24.90 EUR per month.

Private accomodation

Alternatively, you can rent a private apartment. There is a wide offer of private accommodation in the capital city Podgorica where most faculties are.

HEALTH INSURANCE:

Students should get insurance prior to their arrival. This insurance must be valid for the whole period of their stay.

 

You can obtain a visa for Montenegro in your home country or in the closest neighbouring country where there is an Embassy of Montenegro.

In the event you do not obtain a visa in your home country, you can enter Montenegro with your valid passport, after which, within 24 hours, you must register your stay in Montenegro.

Once you are registered in a Tourist organization, you can stay in Montenegro for 90 days. However, within these 90 days, you must obtain a temporary residence permit. In order to obtain the permit, you shall submit a request for obtaining a temporary stay permit at the Ministry of Interior Affairs.

Obligatory documents for obtaining a Residence Permit:

  •     Proof of having sufficient financial support (Copy of Grant Agreement)
  •     Proof that student is provided with accommodation
  • *issued by the IRO office of the University of Montenegro
  •     Health Insurance Certificate
  •     Copy of Passport (All pages)
  •     Valid Certificate of clear criminal record not older than six months (validity of six months) issued by the competent authority of the native country

*certificate has to be original and translated into Montenegrin language by a court sworn interpreter

  •     Proof of request justification (confirmation that student is an Erasmus+ student)

*issued by the IRO office of the University of Montenegro

All documents including Grant Agreement, Health Insurance, and Certificate of clear criminal record have to be translated into Montenegrin language by a court sworn interpreter.

Note: Please check if the verification with an Apostille stamp is required for documents issued in your country before arrival.

After the request is submitted (you will be required to pay a fee of around 50 euros in order to be issued the permit) the Ministry makes a decision on granting the permission for a temporary stay within the envisaged time period.

For students coming from non-EU countries, visa policy varies from country to country. Incoming students can stay in Montenegro for 30 days, but it is highly advisable to obtain a visa before arrival.  Upon arrival, incoming students must register at the Tourist Organization in the city of stay.
