Dear colleagues,

It is time to revise and practise ways of hypothesizing: using conditional sentences with if, and using other expressions like wish, if only, and should have done.

Uses of wish

Wish is used in a number of ways.

eg. I wish I were on holiday. (wanting something to  be different)

eg. I wish I had worked harder. (regret abot the past)

eg. I wish you would go away. (irritation)

note - the major difficulty students have is knowing when they can use would. The answer is, when it expressers willingness, and not for wishes about yourself.
