The research of the MPIS project showed: There is a significant potential for improving innovation in sports in Montenegro

A study published in the prestigious scientific journal Sport Mont confirmed that there is significant potential for advancing innovation in sport in Montenegro; however, policy makers and other stakeholders, including sports administrators and other sports leaders, should strengthen the capacity of sports organizations to innovate their field of activity.

The study was conducted within the project "Montenegrin Platform for Innovation in Sports (MPIS)", and aimed to analyze the attitudes of officials of sports organizations towards the links between the sports sector, sports industry and knowledge organizations with innovations in Montenegrin sports. This project is managed by the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education of the University of Montenegro, and is funded under the program to encourage participation in the Horizon 2020 and COST programs approved by the Ministry of Science.

It is well known that all modern organizations that stand out as leaders in their industries have one common factor that brings them together, and that is the fact that they are all committed to innovation. This fact also applies to sports - points out one of the authors of this study, Stevo Popović, PhD, associate professor at the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education, University of Montenegro. However, so far no empirical research has been conducted in this area, and our knowledge has been mostly limited at the level of assumptions - he states.

This study included 75 respondents, i.e. officials of sports organizations from Montenegro who are directly or indirectly responsible for the development of innovation in their organizations, and is the starting point for establishing a new methodology in the field of innovation in sports which will be one of the key outputs of the project and basis for conducting another more complex study.

The article entitled "Attitudes of Sport Organization Officials towards Links between the Sports Sector, Sports Industry, and Knowledge Organizations with Innovations in Montenegrin Sport" is signed by five authors, of whom are from the University of Montenegro: assoc. prof. Stevo Popović, PhD, full prof. Duško Bjelica, PhD, assoc. prof. Sanja Peković, PhD and Miodrag Zarubica, as well as the author from the University of Novi Sad: assistant prof. Radenko Matić, PhD.
