ABOUT PROJECT

The scientific project Musical Heritage of Montenegro – Musical Practices of Montenegro and their Potential - MusiH enables a new overview of our musical legacy and its revival through applicative aspects, which have not been applied so far in Montenegro.  The project goal is the intensification of activities with the aim of encouraging scientific and artistic researches in the field of the Musical heritage of Montenegro that will, through cooperation of ethnomusicologists, music theorists and creators in the field of musical art, give contribution for the purpose of its further preservation and affirmation in new interpretations. Through the project, activities are planned in gathering and research of the material obtained from the folk and sacral artistic creation, and the mentioned material will be scientifically processed and unified. The Music Academy, as the main project stakeholder, plans to work on networking with researchers and research communities, as well as with institutions that promote musical legacy and which, through their expert opinion and advice, would be able to contribute to the issues of the application of our musical heritage (in the field of the cultural tourism, education, music therapy, marketing, etc.), and all of the aforementioned with the aim of its preservation and conservation. The Music Academy in Cetinje is currently the only member of the Scientific network of Montenegro licensed for scientific researches, which would be representative in the area of music in general and, by this very fact, in the area of musicology and ethnomusicology, as well. The experiences in the region demonstrate that the majority of countries (Serbia, Croatia; Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and others) have the Musicology and Ethnomusicology Institutes and Associations, as special scientific-research institutions, whose framework (outline) of work is composed exactly of the ethnomusicology research and the research in the area of folklore research. Until the establishment of the representative institution, the Music Academy will invest efforts toward maintaining continuity of researches in this area, which is of an exceptional significance. In the scope of the formulated activities, the organization of the scientific gathering “Musical Heritage of Montenegro – Musical Practices of Montenegro and their Potential” is planned, which will gather renowned researchers, and this will bring new interpretations and views to the Montenegrin cultural history, the studies of culture, the history and theory of the Montenegrin art. Applicative aspect of the musical heritage, through musicotherapy, represents an innovative multidisciplinary approach to the musical legacy of Montenegro.
