The Laboratory for Instrumental Methods holds a significant place in the analysis of samples, both laboratory-based and real-world, without neglecting the importance of other analytical methods. Instrumental methods largely fulfill general and specific requirements, but it should be emphasized that all methods have their place in analytics. In every laboratory, including the Laboratory for Instrumental Methods, certain conditions must be met to ensure reliable analyses. Students acquire knowledge about method selection, appropriate sample preparation, result interpretation, and through individual laboratory exercises, they also become proficient in instrument operation techniques. After completing laboratory exercises, students are capable of selecting and applying the most suitable method for analyzing real samples, preparing samples correctly for analysis, interpreting spectra, and conducting qualitative and quantitative analyses.

Research is conducted in the laboratory as part of doctoral dissertations, masters theses, and final projects. The laboratory for analytical chemistry and instrumental methods applies classical analytical methods and modern instrumental techniques in the analysis of various real samples. Special emphasis is placed on examining essential and toxic elements (in honey, plants, soil, water, snails), as well as investigating different types of sorbents (red mud waste from the aluminum industry, various biosorbents derived from agro-industrial waste materials) for the removal of heavy metals from aqueous solutions. Additionally, determinations of the chemical composition and antioxidant capacity of various plant species from the region of Montenegro are carried out.
