International Doctoral Program of the European Laboratory for Molecular Biology (EMBL)

The Call has been announced for International Doctoral Program of the European Laboratory for Molecular Biology that provides students of doctoral studies with an excellent start for development of a successful career in science through encouraging independence of young researchers and participation in interdisciplinary research.    

Program is primarily established in 1983. aimed at promoting excellence in the field of biological science Europe–wide. What makes it special is the fact that it gives a comprehensive interdisciplinary training, with adequate balance between theory and practice, working with mentor and creative freedom, collaborative team work and independence.

Each year, there are two rounds of applying organized on all EMBL locations, and the call is open for submitting applications for summer cycle in 2023. Deadlines are as follows:

  • Applying is open in February 2023;
  • Deadline for submitting applications is April 3rd 23:59 CET;
  • Deadline for references is April 5th 2023, 23:59 CET;
  • Dates of the interviews – will be timely defined;
  • Written results will be published in May 2023;
  • Planned inception date - datum je flexible; the latest until October 2023

Applications are submitted online by filling in a foreseen template OVDJE.

Students of all nationalities can apply for the call, but priority will be given to students from EMBL member states, including Montenegro. Before starting the EMBL program, candidates must have a degree that formally qualifies them for admission to doctoral studies, or an equivalent program in the country where the degree was obtained. If the candidate expects to obtain a relevant degree by the start of the program, he is also eligible to apply. All applications must contain at least two academic references, and will be evaluated solely on the basis of qualifications and scientific potential.

During their stay at EMBL, fellows have the opportunity to work in outstanding laboratory and research facilities and enjoy close mentoring by highly qualified scientists. The average duration of a doctoral dissertation at EMBL is about 4 years.
