Within the Open Days of Science in 2019, the Faculty of Science is on Friday, 04.10.2019. year, now traditionally, held a manifestation called "Days of Biology and Chemistry".

In the laboratories and amphitheaters of the Biology study program, visitors were able to learn about plant life forms, learn about how plants feed, learn about the world of invertebrates and plants from their environment, and also see under the microscope the world of microorganisms, which is invisible to the naked eye. Basic DNA isolation procedures and mechanisms of inheritance are presented, and mosses can be used as bio-indicators. Through a series of interesting experiments, visitors were able to learn how biologically important organic molecules (proteins, lipids, sugars), as well as significant minerals, are found in body fluids. The coordinator of the Open Science Days for the Faculty of Science, as well as the head of the biology department is Sladjana Krivokapic, PhD while teachers and associates from the Biology study program participated in the implementation of the workshop program: Svetlana Perovic, PhD, Danilo Mrdak, PhD, Dragana Petrovic, PhD, Miloje Sundic, PhD, Milica Stanisic, MSc, Milica Jovanovic, MSc and Marija Vojinovic, MSc.

In the large hall of the Biology study program, visitors are introduced to chemistry, its laws, phenomena and properties of substances, through 20 carefully selected experiments. One could see money burning but not igniting, showing a cocktail that was not for drinking, explaining how traces of metal could be proved in the flames, and how the alcohol test works; showing a chemical tornado with no destructive effects and chemical lightning, which can be dangerous. Visitors have felt "on their skin" how artificial blood is made, and we have also taught them how to write secret messages using invisible ink. The head of the chemistry setup is Miljan Bigovic, PhD.

A very significant anniversary in the scientific world is the commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the discovery of the first Periodic Table of the Elements by the Russian chemist Dmitry Ivanovich Mendeleev. On this occasion, Milica Kosovic-Perutovic, PhD from the Faculty of Metallurgy and Technology, University of Montenegro gave a lecture titled "History of the Periodic Table of the Elements and More ..." In addition, visitors could see a collection of 34 chemical elements possessed by the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics and to become more familiar with their physical and chemical properties, methods of obtaining, use, cost, and representation on Earth and in the human body.

Visitors were guided through numerous chemical and biological experiments, biological workshops and settings by students of the Faculty of Science from the study program Biology, the Faculty of Metallurgy and Technology from the study program Chemical Technology and from the Faculty of Medicine from the study program Pharmacy.

You can see some of the atmosphere from Friday in the photo archive.
