This is a brief survey of my work with my colleagues in the classification theory of group gradings on simple algebras and superalgebras.
We now have full classification in the cases of matrix algebras, classical Lie algebras and others.
The methods used include actions and coactions of Hopf algebras, group schemes and Functional identities.
