SPOTS Outputs Integrated with Wireshark, the World's Most Popular Network Protocol Analyzer

SPOTS Outputs Integrated with Wireshark, the World

In the scope of the SPOTS project, the Faculty of Electrical Engineering of the University of Montenegro and the SPOTS team have developed an implementation of the OSCORE security protocol for Wireshark. OSCORE is a protocol that protects the communication through message encryption and integrity protection, and it is adapted to the Internet of Things applications. Wireshark is the world's most popular network protocol analyzer. It is used for troubleshooting, analysis, development and education.

The implementation of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering has undergone a review and testing process by core Wireshark developers and it has been integrated with the official open-source project. It is now available as part of the official Wireshark distribution. Before our implementation could have been integrated with the project, it was also tested with a source-code static analysis tool, used in order to find bugs and security vulnerabilities in an automated manner.

You can see more details on the review process and the source-code that the SPOTS team has contributed at: https://code.wireshark.org/review/#/q/topic:coap-oscore-preparation

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering and the SPOTS team are actively involved in the development and the standardization of the OSCORE protocol, as well as other security protocols under the umbrella of the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) organization. IETF is the organization that standardizes the Internet protocols, without which the Internet would have a hard time functioning.
