About the Institute for Advanced Studies

The Institute for Advanced Studies was founded as a scientific-research institution that aimed at contributing to development of multidisciplinary basic, applied and developmental research in priority scientific areas, especially in segment of:

  • social and humanistic sciences (international relations, political science, social policy, public opinion polling, gender equality, public policy research, economics, law, sociology, anthropology, media and communications, history and archaeology, philosophy, ethics and religion, and others),
  • information and communication technologies (multimedia technologies, software engineering, data processing, systems and architectures, information systems design, signal processing algorithms, computer vision, cryptography, cyber security, watermarking, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and others)
  • biomedicine (basic research into the molecular basis and mechanisms of disease - cell and molecular biology, cancer biology, biochemistry, new technologies in diagnosis and disease monitoring, personalized medicine, genetics and epigenetics, physiology and pharmacology, neuroscience, and others)

In accordance with contemporary global trends of social movements and changes, the Institute for Advanced Studies places its research focus especially on segment concerning current social and natural phenomena, primarily from an interdisciplinary, but also multidisciplinary and transdisciplinary perspective.

INS aims to increase the productivity of research teams, stimulate cooperation with international research institutions, stimulate cooperation with the economic sector in the segment of market-oriented research (especially using the financing model through the commercialization of scientific results) and the public sector in the segment of creating public policies based on facts (especially through cooperation with professional associations, non-governmental organizations and business entities), as well as coordinated management of research resources for joint use of research potential at the university level.

Focus of activities of the Institute for Advanced Studies is to intensify participation in scientific research projects financed by external (international) research funds, which meet high European and world scientific criteria.
