A book published by Springer on the topic of EU enlargement was promoted today

Organized by the Institute for Advanced Studies of the University of Montenegro, a book published by Springer titled "Enlargement and the Future of Europe: Views from the Capitals" was presented today.

The book, as highlighted during the promotion, provides insights from over 60 experts from more than 40 EU and neighboring countries, offering a comprehensive overview of EU member states policies and those of neighboring countries.

Speakers at the promotion included one of the books editors and the Secretary-General of the Austrian Society for European Policy, Paul Schmidt, as well as a senior research fellow at the Austrian Institute for International Affairs, Dr. Vedran Džihić, and former Minister of European Affairs in the Government of Montenegro, Dr. Jovana Marović.

This book analyzes the national visions of EU member states and neighbors regarding European Union (EU) enlargement, highlighting 41 national histories, policies, and corresponding public perceptions of European integration. In the geopolitical context where Russias war against Ukraine has renewed momentum for EU enlargement, national attitudes significantly differ regarding the timing, conditions, and reforms necessary to welcome Eastern neighbors and Western Balkan countries into the European family. Furthermore, EU enlargement policy is not merely an investment in peace and stability; it has also become a political tool in response to the exploitation of interdependence and pressures on liberal values. This book offers concrete recommendations for national governments and the EU on how to move forward productively.

The book examines the visions and strategies of EU member states and neighboring countries regarding the enlargement of the community, emphasizing national histories, policies, and public opinion on European integrations.

The book promotion is one of the series of events through which, under the slogan FuturUM, the University of Montenegro celebrates 50 years since its founding.
