The International Symposium "Contemporary batteries and supercapacitors, COIN2022" was held at the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts in Belgrade on June 1-2, 2022 (www.coin2022.org). Plenary lecturers were world-renowned leaders in the field of energy storage and conversion. Prof. Kristina Edström, Uppsala University, presented future perspectives in battery research within the Battery 2030+ initiative (www.battery2030.eu), while prof. Christian Masquelier, Université de Picardie Jules Verne & CNRS, prof. Patrice Simone, Université Toulouse III - Paul Sabatier, prof. Robert Dominko, National institute of chemistry, Ljubljana, gathered around the Alistore European Research Institute (www.alistore.eu) spoke about current research and new directions in the development of energy storage and conversion systems. Dr. Isidora Cekić-Lasković, Helmholtz-Institute Münster (HI MS), and Dr. Nagore Ortiz-Vitoriano, CIC EnergiGUNE, also presented their research activities in this field. Professors and researchers from the region also presented their research at the Symposium, and special attention was drawn to the presentation of ElevenEs (www.elevenes.com) first project to build gigafactory for the production of Li-ion batteries in Europe based in Subotica.

The co-organizer of the Symposium was the Faculty of Metallurgy and Technology, together with the Faculty of Physical Chemistry of the University of Belgrade, the National Institute of Chemistry in Ljubljana and the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. A member of the organizing committee from the Faculty of Metallurgy and Technology was prof. Dr. Veselinka Grudić, while Dr. Jana Mišurović participated in the Symposium with an invited lecture on "Comparison of charge storage capacity of polyaniline and poly (p-aminodiphenylamine)" and MSc Aleksandra Gezović with a poster presentation of „Al-ion charge storage capacity of vine shoots-derived carbon”.

COIN2022 was organized within the NATO SPS project "Carbon-based batteries and supercapacitors", and received support from the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia. The organization of the event was also supported by the University of Montenegro, thanks to which 8 students from the Faculty of Metallurgy and Technology had the opportunity to attend the gathering.
