Exhibition Drawing "on translation" OBOD in Gallery 42°

In Gallery 42° of the Faculty of Fine Arts, the exhibition Drawing "on translation" OBOD by Spanish artists Vertedor-Romera, JA and Alonso-Calera, JM. [ VertexZenit + ChatoZero ] was opened.

This exhibition is one of the results of the research project Axis Mediterranean, which the Faculty of Fine Arts from Cetinje and the Faculty of Fine Arts from Malaga are implementing as part of the Erasmus+ program. The aim of the project is to promote dialogue between Montenegro and Spain through contemporary art and exhibition activities of the two faculties, which make visible the work of art researchers on the promotion of internationalization and multicultural discourses with a focus on the Mediterranean area, Mediterranean culture and conflicts.

The central focus of the exhibition is "Drawing on Translation", an interdisciplinary installation project inspired by the idea of a double strategy: the renewal of industrial memory and reflection on possible futures. This project is being created around the OBOD factory in Cetinje, Montenegro, and is based on the previous MACCOC project, which unfortunately remained unrealized. As part of MACCOC, the famous artist Marina Abramović presented the exhibition "Fridge and Clear Water Factory", with which she wanted to create an international multimedia center - MACCOC (Social Center Marina Abramović Obod Cetinje). This exhibition represented Montenegro at the Venice Biennale in 2014.

Drawing "on Translation" OBOD aims to redefine the way of using post-industrial spaces, while preserving the industrial memory and identity of territories that have gone through significant changes in their development. This approach is seen as preventive archaeology, which enables the preservation of industrial memory for future generations.

Artists Alonso-Calero and Vertedor-Romero apply the concept of cultural translation inspired by Muntadas. This approach goes beyond the literal meaning and includes the influence of social, political, cultural and economic factors on the world in which we live. The exhibition explores how context, history and media are reshaped and "translated" a space like the Giardini del Castello at the Venice Biennale. A similar strategy is applied in territories that share similar challenges, such as the cement plant and industrial zones in Málaga, Spain, and the CUG steel plant in the Lași industrial zone, Romania.
In short, the exhibition "Drawing on Translation" OBOD represents a combination of artistic expression and critical thinking, with the aim of connecting Montenegro and Spain through contemporary art and cultural exchange. It serves as a platform for dialogues, consideration of perspectives and celebration of the rich cultural heritage and diversity of the Mediterranean region.

The exhibition will be open until September 20, 2023.
