In the laboratory of analytical chemistry, students perform methods of qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis, ranging from classical (gravimetric and volumetric methods) to instrumental techniques (potentiometric methods and sample preparation for methods performed in the instrumental methods laboratory). In this way, students acquire knowledge and skills for proving and determining the chemical composition of a sample, assessing the quality of the tested sample, monitoring chemical reactions, and conducting separation processes. Depending on the sample (laboratory or real) being analyzed, students learn to choose reliable methods, sample preparation techniques, and select and apply appropriate equipment. Students also perform calculations related to chemical analysis and learn how to properly interpret the results of experimental work. The exercises are conducted individually or in teams, all with the aim of mastering the basic techniques, operations, and skills necessary for performing chemical analyses in the laboratory.

The laboratory also conducts research within doctoral dissertations, masters theses, and final papers.

In the laboratories of analytical chemistry and instrumental methods, classical analytical methods and modern instrumental techniques are applied in the analysis of various real samples. Special emphasis is placed on the analysis of essential and toxic elements (in honey, plants, soil, water, snails), as well as the investigation of different types of sorbents (red mud as waste from the aluminum industry, various types of biosorbents that are waste materials from the agro-industry) for the removal of heavy metals from aqueous solutions. Additionally, chemical composition and antioxidant capacity determinations are performed on various plant species from the region of Montenegro.
