This year, the Historical Institute of the University of Montenegro is celebrating its 74th year of existence. On the occasion of this anniversary, we would like to once again pay attention to the large number of realized scientific projects, the publication of numerous books and collections of works, as well as the held scientific meetings.

In the past year, two important scientific meetings were held. The international scientific conference 1941 in Montenegro: Eighty years since the Thirteenth of July Uprising was held in two sessions, where questions of the character and significance of the Thirteenth of July Uprising (liberation and anti-fascist) were discussed through scientific dialogue from the point of view of contemporary historical science. The influence of the uprising on the course of the liberation processes in Montenegro and in the Yugoslav territories, as well as the question of its significance for the formation of political ideas on redefining the arrangement of the post-war Yugoslav state, is considered. Also, the influence of the Thirteenth of July Uprising on the content of literary, artistic, and monumental architecture, created during and after the Second World War, was considered. In December, the international scientific conference "Montenegro on the political and cultural map of Europe" was held. The conference was also held in two plenary sessions, during which the results of research on topics from the political and diplomatic history of Montenegro and its cultural and historical heritage were presented. The focus was on questions of the character and significance of historical processes in Montenegro, which determined its place on the political and cultural map of Europe, from prehistory to the second half of the 20th century.

This year, the Institute of History of the University of Montenegro received the award for the best book - for the publication Montenegrin Artillery in the 19th Century, by Radoslav Raspopović and Branko Bogdanović, at the International Podgorica Book and Education Fair, held from May 8 to 14, 2022.

In addition to this edition, the Memorial of the Historical Institute of UCG was also published. This edition is actually a history of the institutional development of historical science in Montenegro. Although it was created on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Historical Institute 1848-2018, the content of the introductory study goes back to the distant past, from the creation of the first written histories of Montenegro. As it is a jubilee edition, it simultaneously represents an expression of sincere gratitude and tribute to all those who incorporated their scientific and professional work into the development of historiography in Montenegro, or otherwise contributed to its institutional foundation.

The Historical Institute monument was created not only with the intention of reminding the importance of the date when the Historical Institute of Montenegro was founded, but also to show its overall scientific results and the stages it went through in terms of organization and personnel. It is also an expression of nurturing the culture of memory because it contains not only information about the founder, the time and place of establishment, the way of working, the comprehensive results by which the Institute of History has become widely recognized scientifically, but also factual data about everything important, which was achieved through its work. the institute, within its powers, contributed to the raising of collective social consciousness and, as the oldest scientific institution in Montenegro, gave a great impetus and was an active factor in the establishment of other scientific and higher education institutions in Montenegro.

The results of the Historical Institute, and thus the important work of Montenegrin science, which are displayed in the Monument, are the work of several hundred scientific and professional workers from Montenegro, wider Yugoslav areas, but also from scientific centers around the world. Data on the results of their work, which make up the content of the Memorial of the Historical Institute, were shaped through special methodologically designed sections by the Editorial Board consisting of Dr. Olga Pelcer Vujačić, Dr. Ivan Laković, Dr. Miljan Gogić and Dr. Radoslav Raspopović.

We highlight from the review by academician Đorđi Borozan:

"Preserved and scientifically processed documentation in the Institute, on numerous issues from the past to the present of Montenegro and Yugoslavia, testify to the scientific mission of historical and other scientific disciplines that numerous authors have incorporated into the scientific mission of the Historical Institute. The institute as the oldest scientific institution in Montenegro, according to a series of scientific projects and the magazine Istorijski zapisi, which more fully follows historiographical scientific events in the Montenegrin and Yugoslav areas, represents a significant scientific contribution to the State University of Montenegro.

Along with the Memorial, the Institute also published the third, updated edition of the Bibliography of Records - Historical Records (1927-2018). This jubilee edition is supplemented with contributions that were published in the magazine for the period 2007-2018. years.

During the past year, several public lectures by prominent lecturers from Montenegro and abroad were held at the Institute, activities continued within the framework of national and bilateral international projects, as well as the participation of researchers at international conferences.

Basing its work exclusively on the postulates of science, with these publications and activities, the Institute contributed to the study of the past of Montenegro, contributing to the development of modern scientific thought, the reputation of the University of Montenegro and the country as a whole.
