On the Faculty of Law UMNE International Women Day in Science Celebrated

On the Faculty of Law of the University of Montenegro, the February 11th has been celebrated as International Day of Women in Science.

University of Montenegro, with its Action Plan for Gender Equality among others, has foreseen, promoting and implementing campaigns that make transparent achievements of women scientists and contribution of women in research; promoting and implementing campaigns that make transparent contribution of gender diversity of research teams to quality of research, conducting education/workshops on career development (doctoral studies) that include strengthening in the field of research, as well as continuous development of women with successful careers.     

This day reminds us of a long and highly appreciated contribution of women and girls in science and education that enlighten the path for new generations towards new achievements that will shape and change the world. Therefore, we shall support equality in conquering knowledge, as an exquisite value and source of humanity progress.   

Namely, on December 22, 2015, the General Assembly of the United Nations adopted Resolution A/RES/70/212, which established the International Women Day in Science, as an annual international event celebrated on February 11.

This important day for women and girls in science was created based on the conclusions, E/CN.6/2011/L.6, adopted by the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, at its 55th session, on March 14, 2011. , which affirm equal access and participation of women and girls in education, training, science and technology, including equal opportunities for full employment and dignified work. In order to implement the conclusions, the UN General Assembly, on December 20, 2013, adopted the Resolution on Science, Technology and Innovation, A/RES/68/220, which: "Recognizes that comprehensive and equal access and participation in science, technology and innovation for women of all ages, an imperative for achieving gender equality and empowering women…”. In this sense, this Resolution emphasizes that: "resolving obstacles to equal access of women and girls to science, technology and innovation requires a systematic, comprehensive, integrated, sustainable, multidisciplinary and multisector approach," so "governments are invited to include the gender perspective into its legislation, programs and relevant policies."

Two years later, with the aim of achieving comprehensive and equal approach, strengthening and participation of women and girls in science, on December 22nd 2015 at session of General Assembly UN, the Resolution A/RES/70/212 has been adopted stating the Fwbrury 11th as International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
