Visit of the Turkish ambassador and Turkish commerce of shipping to Faculty of Maritime Studies Kotor

As a part of the visit to Montenegro and the town of Kotor, the delegation of the Turkish Commerce of Shipping (TCS), led by His Excellency, Mr. Bariş Kalkavan, visited the Faculty of Maritime Studies Kotor on Friday, 26 April 2024. The delegates of TCS were the Chairman of the TCS Board of Directors, Mr. Tamer Kiran, President of the  TCS Assembly, Mr. Başaran Bayrak, and other members of the Board of Directors of this most prominent maritime association in Turkey comprising more than 11 thousand firms. The guests were accompanied by Mr. Ljubo Radović, director of Port of Kotor.

The esteemed guests were welcomed by the Faculty Dean, Prof. Tatijana Dlabač, Vice-dean for Development and Communication, Asst. Prof. Zorica Đurović, associates and doctoral candidates: capt. Igor Petrović, capt. Ivan Mraković and Nemanja Pudar, and other Faculty staff who did their best to host this high-level Turkish delegation.

His Excellency, Mr. Kalvakan, and the Chairman of the Chamber, Mr. Kiran, expressed their satisfaction and gratitude for having the opportunity to visit Montenegro, as well as the Faculty of Maritime Studies Kotor, and familiarize themselves with its organization and resources. Following the introductory presentation on the Faculty, the discussion was related to the maritime education and training system at the Faculty and in Montenegro, the similarities and differences with the system in the Republic of Turkey, as well as possibilities of further mutual activities with the Turkish maritime universities. A special emphasis was put on prospective cooperation with the Piri Reis University of Istanbul the Turkish Chamber of Shipping has special relations with, and which is a fellow member of our Faculty in the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU).

The guests had the opportunity to visit the Faculty’s simulators, which was an additional opportunity to discuss further possibilities of cooperation between the maritime industry and educational institutions, as well as practical contributions of the blue economy to the enhancement of education and training of future seafarers.

Back-to back to this visit, the representative of the Montenegrin shipping company „Crnogorska plovidba“ joined the meetings at the Faculty and discussed possible forms of cooperation between the representatives of the maritime industry and leading maritime companies of the two countries.
