The Centre is involved in basic and applied research in the field of aquaristics and conservation and study of sea turtles and cetaceans (dolphins in particular).
The specific activities in the Centre include:
-    Establishing of the public aquarium within the frame of the Institute of Marine Biology according to the principles of economic self-sustainment, including its regular maintenance and operability in accordance with the best practices and regulations of keeping wild animals in captivity.
-    Establishing Rescue centre for sea turtles and other endangered animal species, its maintenance and functioning.
-    Experimental research in the field of behaviour and survival of marine organisms in captivity. 
-    Organisation of educational workshops and training courses for children of all ages, from pre-school to university students.
-    Organisation of educational open-air museum exhibit “Sea museum”, and its maintenance. 
-    Organisation of open-air exhibitions and various other content within the Aquarium Boka complex. 
-    Connecting with experts and colleagues within the country and in the region in order to exchange experiences, plan joint activities, project applications, joint international project realisation, scientific paper drafting and publishing, organisation of scientific meetings, popularisation of marine sciences, conservation and protection of the sea, etc.
