Upon successful completion, the students will be able to: 1. Understand basic concepts the structural mechanics theory for deformable bodies; 2. Understand the concepts of stress and strain at a point as well as the stress-strain relationships for homogenous, isotropic materials; 3. Calculate the stresses and strains in axially-loaded members, circular torsion members and members subjected to flexural loadings; 4. Understand and apply basic concepts of structural design.
