Academic title and degree: Master in Maritime Environmental Protection and Management

Duration and number of credits:  2 years, 120 ECTS

Scientific field: Interdisciplinary, including technical, natural and social sciences

Universities organizing joint master program MEP&M: University of Montenegro (Montenegro), “Aleksander Moisiu” University Durres (Albania), and University “Ismail Qemali” Vlore (Albania)

Who can apply: The program is intended for all interested students and professionals who have at least a diploma of completed BSc studies in related fields (technical, natural, social and interdisciplinary sciences), in order to improve their professional qualifications in environmental protection, management of the coastal area and the marine environment.

Institutional objectives of the joint master program MEP&M:

  1. To encourage the protection and management of the marine environment through exceptional education, standards and practices.
  2. To establish strong connections between academia, governmental bodies, non-governmental organizations and the economy, guided by the principles of sustainable development in the blue economy sectors.
  3. To internationalize the program in order to increase its visibility and connectivity.

 

Learning outcomes:

Upon completion of this program, students will develop the following competencies:

  1. To conduct thorough analyses of specific sectors within the blue economy, assessing their impact on marine environment pollution.
  2. To proficiently identify the sources of pollution of the marine environment from the activities of certain sectors of the blue economy.
  3. To define a comprehensive understanding of sustainable development and management principles of individual sectors of the blue economy from the aspect of marine environment protection.
  4. To implement a range of legal and technical measures to proactively prevent and mitigate marine environment pollution, as well as address the effects of climate change.
  5. To apply the quality management system - QMS, together with standards for laboratories, control and certification organizations.
  6. To strategically plan for the integrated management of coastal marine areas, incorporating best practices and interdisciplinary approaches.
  7. To conduct individual research work in the field of application of the knowledge and skills in activities at sea and in coastal areas that contribute to the protection and management of the marine environment.
  8. To synthesize and apply interdisciplinary knowledge and skills essential for specialized activities in the field of marine environment protection and management, fostering a holistic approach to problem-solving.
