Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to: - Define the categorisation of fuels and describe the composition and characteristics of crude oil. - Analyse basic processes in crude oil processing. - Perform the categorisation of liquid and gaseous fuels, their composition and properties. - Analyse and define the fuel combustion process. - Analyse the fuel types for shipboard use. - Analyse and explain the fuel systems on-board ships. - Define the importance of lubrication. - Define the categorisation and properties of lubricants. - Describe the types of lubricants on-board ships. - Describe the lubrication systems on-board vessels. - Analyse the use of water; define its physical and chemical properties and difficulties in its application on-board ships.
