After passing this exam, the student will be able to: 1. Define semantics and its subject of study. 2. Present the characteristics of traditional semantics and describe the process of the emergence of semantics as a distinct scientific discipline. 3. Highlight the basic characteristics of structural semantics (componential analysis), generative and cognitive semantics (conceptual and prototype theory). 4. Analyze types of meaning and lexical-semantic categories (polysemy, synonymy, homonymy, paronymy, antonymy, hyponymy, meronymy, as well as onomatopoeia, taboos, idioms-phrasemes). 5. Compare different types of meaning at the sentence level (paraphrase, tautology, contradiction, ambiguity).
