Last year was, for the Center of Information System (CIS), the most challenging and demanding since its establishment until today, but, as it explains Miodrag Zarubica, director of CIS of the University of Montenegro, they can boast of many activities that contributed to progress and normal functioning of the academic community and University.

He announced that the CIS will continue with its activity, so that the users can soon expect the expansion of the functionality of the University of Montenegro portal and that the students will receive e-INDEX service.

“The COVID19 situation caused that the classes to move from traditional to digital, so it contributed to the CIS adapting very quickly to the new circumstances and providing online services to normalize teaching and functioning of the University”.

Director Zarubica referred to the most important activities that improved work of the University of Montenegro, among which was the signing of collaboration contract between the University of Montenegro and Telekom Montenegro.

“At the beginning of 2020, Rector Nikolić signed the contract by which 2.1 million euros was donated to the University of Montenegro which increased the speed of connection between the Center of Information System at the Rectorate and every unit of the University to 100 times and concluded it for a period of 15 years”, he explains.

Zarubica also added that the main system room of the CIS was reconstructed, as well as the purchase and installation of new server equipment worth about 115.000 euros which enabled them to raise and integrate a new DL platform into the information system in just one week after the start of the pandemic - with more than 17.000 users.

“During the year we managed to launch our own video conference platform called BigBlueButton and integrated it into DL platform, which enabled the professors to organize complete classes from one place”, he added.

Realizing that a large number of students did not take the credentials for access to student services from the student services, he explains, the CIS developed service for SMS sending credentials aktivirajnalog.ucg.ac.me

“In addition to this, we digitalized other services, the publishing activity of the University and enrollment in the first year of studies which enabled 6.000 candidates to submit documents electronically, without coming to faculty.

In the segment of network, as he added, they made a big step forward and started implementation of IPv6 protocol, the new generation Internet and set up the first website from Montenegro visible in the world by IPv6 addresses. “We worked on expanding Eduroam network, and at the end of year we realized the procurement of the main router of the University of Montenegro in the value of 70.000 euros.

He expressed the gratitude to his colleagues from the CIS, for whom he said that their committed work managed to enable the smooth functioning of all systems and added that they responded only via Help desk to thousands of requests only via Help desk, active since the beginning of the pandemic COVID19.
