The Conference ‘GDPR and Data Protection in Montenegro’




International Conference named “GDPR and Data Protection in Montenegro’’ organized by the Faculty of Law of the University of Montenegro, will be held on December 16th 2019 in the CentreVille Hotel & Experiences in Podgorica. 

In business circles topic GDPR for the past year has become number one, which is not surprising, since the General Data Protection Regulation has come into force on May 25th 2018. Montenegro, as country candidate for the EU membership is obliged to harmonize national legislation with the EU law and to continuously work on harmonization of national with European regulation.  

How far has the process arrived? What does the GDPR mean for citizens of Montenegro, for economy of Montenegro, are there and what kind of obligations are levied to organs of public authorities in Montenegro? Do our citizens may expect this level of protection of personal data that citizens of the European Union have? Are companies of Montenegro ready for application of GDPR and what challenges can they bear? These are just some of the current questions that participants of the conference try to answer.   

Aim of this conference is to make closer GDPR to wider public and to raise awareness on how this act will influence the companies and individual, and other interested parties on the first place economy and organs of public authority that are obliged to protect rights of an individual. 

The Conference will encourage dialogue through interactive lectures, panel discussions and exchange of experiences among regulatory bodies, national institutions, academic public, as well as representatives of companies where General Regulation is applied, and in the same time point to challenges brought by GDPR implementation, to what extent it will influence company business simultaneously giving suggestions for potential solutions.

At the Conference will speak experts from the field of data protection, representatives of the Ministry of Public Government, the Ministry of Defense, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro, and Agency for Protection of Personal Data in Montenegro as well as professors of the Faculty of Law and representatives of successful companies. Participation in the Conference will also take some of the most important international experts from the field of protection of personal data.
