The hall system of the Information System Center, which is the heart of the information system of the University of Montenegro, has been reconstructed and improved with a new server infrastructure that will improve all segments of work at the University of Montenegro.

Director of the UMNE Information System Center Miodrag Zarubica said that a total of about 140,000 Euros was invested in the hall, of which 30,000 Euros were invested in construction works, and 100,000 in server infrastructure, 10,000 in air conditioning and monitoring systems.

"This hall is the main hub of all connections of the University of Montenegro, primarily with 22 organizational units, in Podgorica, Kotor, Igalo, Cetinje, Niksic, Berane and Bijelo Polje. All server platforms that are crucial for the functioning of the University of Montenegro function on its server infrastructure, starting from the student service, personnel records database, finance, accounting, through the teaching staff database, distance learning or distance learning platform, web servers, e-mail servers and all other systems important for uninterrupted work ", the Director Zarubica explained.

A year ago, the Rector Danilo Nikolic, PhD, signed a new contract for 15 years on the donation of Telecom of Montenegro, with which the University of Montenegro increased the connection speed between units to 1 Gbps, or 100 times.

He adds that the Hall also has an external link to the GEANT network, an advanced pan-European academic and research network that currently connects more than 50 million users across Europe on its own optical infrastructure.

"Currently, the UMNE academic network is connected to GEANT at a speed of 1 Gbps. In the coming period, in agreement with GEANT, the speed of the external link will be increased to 20 Gbps after the purchase of a new router with the required performance. We plan to replace and firewall (defense system), which will speed up and make the flow of information on UCG faster and safer ", the Director Zarubica explained and added that the University has provided 70,000 Euros for this investment.

With Reconstruction of the hall, he adds, the latest generation HP servers have been installed, which enable the development and improvement of existing software and easier work at the entire University.

"The hall system also has a radius server installed for the Eduroam network, which is available on all campuses of the University of Montenegro and in numerous higher education research and educational institutions throughout Europe and the world, which provides its users with free, secure, fast and easy Internet access. the need to open additional accounts, using the already existing username and password of the academic e-mail ", the Director Zarubica states.

According to him, in the System Hall, the exchange of internet traffic for Montenegro or Montenegro exchange point (MIXP) is realized, a place that connects operators operating in Montenegro, i.e. Crnogorski Telekom, Telenor, Mtel, Telemach, the Telecommunications Agency of Montenegro and the Center information system of the University of Montenegro.

"The Telecommunications Agency of Montenegro has installed its servers in the CIS UCG hall system, which monitors and measures the speed of internet traffic of operators in Montenegro. The only F-route server in the Balkans is in the system room, and also the technical administrator of the state domain ME in our room is one of their DNS servers ", the Director Zarubica states.

Also, a new monitoring system has been installed in the Hall, which measures humidity, air temperature and signals voltage-free status, and for all this it sends alarm messages automatically to e-mails and SMS to the persons in charge at the UCG Information System Center.

When it comes to construction works, the Director Zarubica says that interior of the hall has been reconstructed and, among other things, automatic fire doors with ID identification have been installed, which serve to control the entry of authorized persons into the system and thus increase the security of the hall.

The existing air conditioning system is supplemented with additional units and a temperature control system.

Alarm systems, anti-burglary and fire-fighting system, protective grilles on the windows were installed and old neon lighting was replaced, with modern LED lighting which optimizes energy consumption, and next to this hall, new video surveillance cameras were installed in the hall.
