Professor Pan Weimin Gave A Lecture in University of Montenegro

Local time on 30th April, professor Pan Weimin was invited to give a lecture at University of Montenegro, who is the Dean of School of Foreign Languages, Shanghai University of Electric Power, visiting Professor of University of Cambridge, UK, and Fellow of Chartered Institute of Linguists, UK. Chinese language learners, Chinese culture enthusiasts, and members of CI at UCG attended the lecture.

The topic of the lecture is “The Enlightenment of Confucius Culture in the Contemporary World”. Starting from the origin of Confucianism, Professor Pan gave a brief introduction to the information of Confucius first. Then, he explained the connotation and influence of Confucianism. He summed up the essence of Confucianism “loyalty and piety, affection and love, faithfulness and righteousness, peace and harmony”, as pointed out by Dr. Sun Yat-sen. He led a discussion with students about Four Books and Five Classics, “Three Cardinal Guides”, and “Five Virtues”. He also listed the famous sentences that reflect Confucianism, giving students a better understanding of Confucianism. As regard to the influence of Confucianism in the contemporary world, Professor Pan explained it into four aspects of the harmony between human and nature, harmonic theory in medicine, good government and harmonious relations, and China’s attitude towards international issues. In particular, Professor Pan pointed out that China’s diplomatic strategies aim at harmony. China never interfere in other country’s affairs and never seek hegemonic actions. Our country adheres to the independent foreign policy on the basis of the “Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence”. And with the cultural support of Confucianism, we call on world countries to build a “Shared Community of Common Destiny”.

At the end of the lecture, Professor Pan answered patiently questions raised by students and posed for a group photo with students.

Professor Pan explained profound theories in simple expressions which made the lecture lively and full of humors. Before the lecture, he conducted interaction with students about Ta Chi and Chinese medicine. All students and teachers learned a lot from the lecture.
