Biography - Jelić Ivana

Ivana Jelic was born in 1975 in Podgorica where she finished elementary school, High school and Law Faculty.

Completed master studies with highest honor in January 2014 and PhD studies in July 2007 in the field of international public law at Law Faculty in Belgrade.

She has been working at the Law faculty of UM since March 2001.

In 2008 appointed as an assistant professor and as and associate professor in 2013 for subjects from international legal science field.

She has been engaged since 2005 at Faculty of Political sciences of University of Montenegro.

She was vice-dean for international cooperation of the Law Faculty in two mandates (2011-2012 and 2015-2016)

She finished specializations in the field of international public law and human rights at the Law Faculty, University of Bergen (2002), Law Faculty, University of California in Berkeley (2004-2005), Center for human rights, University Columbia, New York (2005); The Hague Academy for international law (2006 and 2009); Center for humanitarian law and human rights of the University of Paris 2-Asas (2007); UNOG in Geneva (2008); London school of economics (2010-2011); Law Faculty of the Free University of Berlin (2013-2014) and Law Faculty, University of Sofia Antipolis in Nice (2015)

Shes a vice-president of Association of lawyers of Montenegro.

Member of the committee on legal sciences, Montenegro Academy of sciences and arts; The council of the diplomatic academy and Council for gender equality of the Government of Montenegro.

Since its establishement she has been a member of the Center for young scientists at Montenegro Academy of sciences and arts and its president in the mandate of 2011-2013.

She has a title of Distinguished Visiting Professor for the field of International human irghts law at the Law Faculty, Free University of Berlin.

Legal expert of the Council of Europe since 2008.

Member of the Main Committee on human rights of the Council of Europe (2008-2012), working groups of experts for the accession of the European Union to the European Convention on human rights (2010); Committee of experts for improving procedures for the human right protection – DH-PR (2008-2010), The Advisory Committee of the framework convention for the protection of national minorities of the Council of Europe – ACFC (2012-2016) and its vice president (2014-2016). The Committee of ministers of the Europe Council elected her again as and ACFC expert in 2017.

Member of the UN Committee for human rights since 2005 and vice-president of this body since March 2017.

Since 2008 she has participated in the work of several expert working bodies of the Government of Montenegro regarding the harmonization of legal regulations and practices with SE and EU standards.

Winner of several awards and recognitions, including the prize of the Montenegrin Academy of Sciences and Arts, for achievements in science, intended for young creators (2007).

Published more than 90 works in domestic and international journals.

Author of the books: Human rights and multiculturalism, State responsibility in international law, Minority rights and co-author of five international monographs on English and German.

She speaks English, French, Italian and German
