Biodata - Stefan Bulatović

Stefan Bulatović is an adjunct English instructor, currently affiliated with the Department of Translation Studies. He received his BA in English Language and Literature from the University of Montenegro in 2007, followed by graduate certificates in Teaching English as a Foreign Language and Translation Studies respectively. As a recipient of the Join EU-SEE scholarship he completed a two-year Research Master's programme in Linguistics at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands (2012-2014). His master’s thesis focused on communication between speakers of closely related languages through receptive multilingualism and English as a lingua franca (ELF). In autumn 2018 he was awarded a scholarship by the Ministry of Science of Montenegro to pursue a PhD in Linguistics at the University of Montenegro.

He has been involved in teaching at the University of Montenegro since 2008, starting as a demonstrator in the Department of English Language and Literature and subsequently as a teaching assistant at the Institute of Foreign Languages. He has taught a number of ESP courses, including modules in Business English and Legal English, while he has also given tutorials in English Morphology and Translation into English (Contemporary English V and VI) to translation students. In addition to teaching, he previously also acted as a rater in the Secondary School Leaving Exam in English at the Examination Centre of Montenegro.  

His research interests lie in the area of sociolinguistics/applied linguistics, especially receptive multilingualism, English as a lingua franca (ELF) and English-medium instruction (EMI). He is a member of the Applied Linguistics Society of Montenegro. 

In addition to research and teaching activities, he also specialises in translation, copy editing and communications. In particular, he was part of a number of national translation projects, including the translation of answers to the European Commission's Questionnaire into English and the translation of the EU acqus into Montenegrin (chapters 7 and 22). Between 2015 and 2018 he served as a Communication/Public Information Associate at UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency, in Montenegro. More recently, he has been involved with NGO Biciklo.me as a Project and Communications Manager.
