IIMS hosts activities dedicated to inclusion in sport and physical activity

The activity within the “Stride and Glide” program was carried out at the Institute for Interdisciplinary and Multidisciplinary Studies (IIMS) where Velimir Vlahović from the organization REGSPO presented the research results indicating that persons with disabilities still face numerous barriers to accessing sports and physical activity. Among the most significant challenges are inaccessible infrastructure and transportation, a lack of adapted equipment as well as insufficiently trained professional staff for working in an inclusive sports environment.

The project, financed by the European Union with two hundred thousand euros and implemented in Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Portugal, was presented through the focus on the practical application of inclusive methods in work with children and young people. The special emphasis was placed on carefully designed exercises that promote equal access to sports activities and encourage the active participation of all participants. Through the interactive program, participants had the opportunity to gain knowledge on adopting sports activities to the different needs of children and young people, as well as on creating a safe, supportive, and accessible environment that fosters inclusion, cooperation and team spirit.

The organizers emphasized that inclusive sport is not the privilege but right of every individual, and that new generations of sports professionals can be drivers of positive social change.

The activity was carried out in the partnership between IIMS, the organization REGSPO and Primary school „Pavle Rovinski“ where Velimir Vlahović works as a  physical education teacher.
