MSA Conference Place Where People and Ideas Meet

MSA Conference Place Where People and Ideas Meet

Praiseworthy is the fact that today the Montenegrin sports science is "visible" with two quality Journals which need to be spoken as values "per se," but as a "starter" of numerous changes in higher education and scientific research - said Professor Milošević.

Just as in sports it is harder to preserve the throne, than to win it, so the mission of continuous improvement of the international scientific conference "Transformation Processes in Sport" is one of the most difficult tasks that hard-working Montenegrin scientific researchers meet every year - said professor of sports science at the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education in Novi Sad and the Provincial Secretary for Higher Education and Scientific Research Vojvodina, Prof. Zoran Milosević. He for the web portal of the University of Montenegro speaks about the upcoming conference, which will be held from March 30th to April 2nd, in Budva, its importance, partnership, but also about what is the best pledge for the future.

Faculty of Sport and Physical Education from Novi Sad is a partner with Montenegrin Sports Academy on Scientific Conference "Transformation processes in sport." How important are conferences of this type for strengthening the scientific and intellectual capital?

Faculty of Sport and Physical Education, University of Novi Sad, is proud of its 43 year long tradition, and with equal pleasure watches a reached level of development, especially in their own perspective with respect to the challenges of the time and "space" effects. One of the preconditions for optimism for such a futuristic vision is to strengthening of regional connections, with the aim of establishing a partnership in the mutual evaluation of teaching and scientific capacities, because as we come at the Conference to "see others", others come to "see us" as well. Simple said, we live in a time of intense exchange of information, in which each prejudice, based on "the glory of memories", slows the pace of development, especially in the fields of higher education and applied research (sports science), where "intellectual capital" plays the most important role.

You are talking about the knowledge exchange?

For us it is extremely important that our teachers-researchers exchange experiences in the places "where people and ideas meet," among which MSA has a special place because of its incomparable values of communication. Our partnership is built on the idea of continuous learning, because in this time when we all seek the continuity in creation, it is wise to follow the idea that "life has no friends or enemies - there are only teachers." We are here to learn and for this year's conference, beside renowned researchers in our "team" from Novi Sad, we have included 15 students on undergraduate and master studies, who with their presence will be the best pledge for our partnership in the future.

Does this mean that the MSA Conference indirectly managed to accomplish the mission of continuous improvement and quality improvements?

Just as in sports it is harder to preserve the throne, than to win it, so the mission of continuous improvement of the Conference is one of the most difficult tasks that hard-working Montenegrin scientific researchers meet every year. In the beginning the "generator" of positive change was the choice of destination, the possibility of publishing papers, thematic breadth, where soon its regional and full international dimension, expressed in the scientific excellence of plenary speakers and renowned researchers, through current and applied workshops, as well as encouragement for young researchers, was a powerful "wind in the sails" for constant desire to overcome the previously established level of quality. However, the quality, no matter how long it takes to be "reached" with continuous and teamwork, often created by the vision and commitment of people who are inexhaustible "source" of innovation in organizing the conference, also is a guarantee for their successful implementation. Not without a reason, and this time I want to point out that the Prof. Duško Bjelica and Assist. Prof Stevo Popović, are this indispensable personification of "brand" continuous improvement.

Faculty for Sport and Physical Education, University of Montenegro and the MSA issued two quality Journals in the field of sport science, which is well quoted in the reference databases...

Praiseworthy is the fact that today the Montenegrin sports science is "visible" with two quality Journals which need to be spoken as values "per se," but as a "starter" of numerous changes in higher education and scientific research which, at least, from our point of view, had a strong incentive character. The focus on the number of papers and breadth of thematic abstraction of Journal "Sport Mont", which promotes small-scale researches, has been successfully upgraded with the magazine "Montenegrin Journal of Sports Science and Medicine" whose quality is built through the "citation" of research results and which obtains a cumulative indexing in numerous databases. However, this time reviewing  the fact that the decade-long battle for the principle of "working, writing and publishing," which is materialized in mentioned Journals in indisputable results of the "visibility", far more brokered in creating an atmosphere of self-respect and competitive spirit, both within their own - sports science, and in relation to other scientific fields. Maybe it's presumptuous, but not without foundation, Montenegro on the remnants of the "old system" evaluation of scientific research launched a new "logic" to connect people in the creation and management of new research objectives. Therefore it is not surprising that both Journals almost "adopted" from others, beside Montenegrin have another "nationality". To conclude, risking to be misunderstood, I remain convinced that "Sport Mont" and now "Montenegrin Journal of Sports Science and Medicine", are one of the indirect "culprits" why the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education in the family of fourteen faculties at the University of Novi Sad is at a high seventh place in relation to the number of papers published in the so-called SCI list. In order to "fly" in the scientific highest level a good 'ground' preparation is needed – and the "lobby" of international Journals. Such partnership of "mutual edification" should be developed in the future. (University of Montenegro)
