Faculty for Sport and Physical Education of the University of Montenegro Completed Online Survey of BiH Premier League Football Players

Teachers of the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education of the University of Montenegro have organized an online survey over the past ten days in order to find out how football players of the Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina kept their sports shape in the period from stopping all competitions and group training. This research included 369 football players, aged 17 to 30, from all 12 clubs of the BiH Premier League, who were very happy to respond to the invitation to participate in this research.

"As it is known, in order to prevent spread of the epidemic caused by outbreak of the new corona virus, all competitions and club trainings were interrupted globally, in all sports. Top athletes around the world faced the need to individually maintain the hitherto achieved sport shape, but with the obligatory adherence of all temporary measures prescribed in order to prevent spread of the epidemic ", Dushko Bjelica, PhD, said.

The fundamental processing of obtained results, he adds, indicates that, during the previous two months, most football players of the BiH Premier League made a significant effort to stay in sports shape at the highest possible level, although during this period the usual ways of training and places have been determined by temporary measures on which individual trainings could be performed.

Professor Bjelica further points out that, without the possibility of using football fields, sports halls and gyms, the individual training of each athlete mostly depended on personal training sports equipment and props, own space adapted for training, as well as personal motivation to exercise.

Obtained results indicate that most football players were in a situation to improvise individual trainings in the current period in accordance with the possibilities available.

Also, based on obtained results, it can be concluded most of the football players independently organized individual trainings according to the model of the usual trainings in the club until then, and on the basis of the program determined by the coach for that purpose.

The football players emphasized that telephone, Viber and Skype communication with the coach and teammates was of great importance to them in period when competitions and collective trainings were not possible. In that way, the football players continued their mutual communication, which they stated was very important to them, and which had followed their trainings, matches and socializing until then.

"The results obtained from survey of the part of the research dedicated to the motivation of BiH Premier League football players to keep their sports shape with individual trainings until the resumption of club training and the already announced continuation of first league matches, indicate a high level of personal motivation." the basis for the successful continuation of the training of the already announced championship matches ", Professor Bjelica concludes.

This research, organized by the Faculty of Sports and Physical Education of UMNE, has already provided useful information on the ways in which it is possible in the current circumstances to maintain and largely preserve the previously achieved sports form of top athletes. However, as Professor Bjelica says, only after final processing of the obtained data we expect much more detailed details that will be published and thus available to athletes and the general public.

From the Faculty of Niksic, they owe special gratitude for the selfless cooperation in this project of Munir Talović, PhD and Eldin Jelešković, PhD from the University of Sarajevo, and Marina Ćorluka, PhD, from the University of Mostar.
