Students of specialization and master studies of journalism of the Faculty of Political Science participated on 13th Conference of Journalists of the Southeastern Europe in Zagreb from fourth to sixth November. On this year’s conference was discussed about the future of public services and printed media.

Media experts, journalists and editors of the countries from Southeastern Europe spoke about their experiences in working in media, hence underlining more dominant influence of political parties and state on public services. Panelists emphasize importance of stakeholders and lobby groups on media content. They looked back on the problem of insufficient presentation of research stories in public services, with the accent on the Croatian public service. ‘Management sends  a clear message by not airing research content, creating forbidden lists of topics and correspondents in information shows’, is one the conclusions of the panel ‘Public Services under Pressure – Between Financial limits and political influence’.

At the conference was promotion of the book ‘A Pillar of Democracy on Shaky Ground- Public Service Media in SEE’ with published results of research conducted in countries of the Southeast Europe. Trust of the audience in public service is on a low level while great number of examinees finds this type of emitters a public media.  Journalists conclude that professional values and profit have to be harmonized.

SEEMF since 2007 each year is organized in one of the regional countries, as joint project of Media Organization of Southeastern Europe (SEEMO), Central Europe Initiative (CEI) and Foundation (KAS).
