Meeting of the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China with the Director of the Historical Institute

At the Residence of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Podgorica, courtesy of Ambassador H.E. Mr. Mr. Lin Jin, a meeting was held with the director of the Historical Institute of UoM, Dr. Radoslav Raspopović. The topic of conversation was the development of existing and the establishment of new scientific contacts between the Historical Institute of UCG and scientific institutions in the People's Republic of China.

         The meeting was organized in the year that marks the 15th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, which certainly deserves an adequate level of media, but also the attention of the scientific and professional public. There was also talk that if not this, then certainly another, next anniversary could be the occasion for a joint publication, entitled: "Montenegro and China", which would explain the types of cooperation between the two countries, in scientific, cultural, diplomatic or economic plan in the period since the establishment of official diplomatic relations.

In the conversation, as a good example of scientific contacts made so far, which should be further developed, the need to continue the work on the bilateral project: GIS for regional cultural heritage: Methodology Based on Case studies from katuns on the Mountains of Kuči in Montenegro and cultural route sites of Beijing-Tianjin-Heibei Area of ​​China. The project was approved by the Ministry of Science of Montenegro and the Ministry of Science and Technology of the People's Republic of China. Researchers from the Historical Institute of the University of Montenegro participated in it - Dr. Olga Pelcer-Vujacic (team leader), Dr. Tatjana Koprivica, Dr. Slavko Burzanovic and Dr. Ivan Lakovic. The Chinese team consists of Dr. Jie HE (team leader), Chunyan Zhang, Xiaoyan MI and Tao XU from Tianjin University, PR China. In the period from September 3 to 14, 2019, researchers from the Historical Institute of UCG - visited the People's Republic of China and visited the sites of cultural routes in the provinces of Heibei, Beijing, Badaling, Tianjin and Jizhou. Also, several lectures were held at the University of Tianjin on the topic: Mountain Cultural Heritage In Montenegro: A Case Study Of Katuns. The Chinese colleagues stayed in Montenegro in the period from January 29 to February 7, 2020, which continued the cooperation.

    Except in this area, it was jointly stated that it would be scientifically very useful for the Embassy of the People's Republic of China to mediate in establishing scientific contacts with Slavic and Balkan studies centers in the People's Republic of China. Comparative analysis of the approach to these topics and joint work on projects for which scientific institutions from two sides would show interest, was assessed as a fruitful path in the exchange of scientific experiences, both in terms of methodology and from a broader context of studying the culture of Slavic peoples and their history, as well as the history of the Balkans.

The conversation took place in a very cordial atmosphere with mutual understanding of the need to expand scientific and institutional ties, as already exist in the case of the mentioned scientific project, and with the relocation of the Confucius Institute at the University of Montenegro to the building of the Historical Institute of UCG and particularly good cooperation with the Chinese director of the Institute, Luo Chunxia.
