Dr Bojan Baća Awarded with Prestigious Humboldt Fellowship

Dr Bojan Baća, Research Associate at the Institute for Advanced Studies of the University of Montenegro, has been awarded the most prestigious German individual fellowship for international researchers, granted by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. Although he is at an early stage of his academic career, Dr Baća received the Humboldt Fellowship in the “Experienced Researcher” category, which is typically awarded to scholars at a more advanced stage of their careers through a highly competitive global selection process. This category includes candidates with a clearly defined research profile, measurable scientific contributions, and an established international academic reputation.

The fellowship enables a research stay in Germany lasting from six to eighteen months, to be carried out over a period of up to three years at an institution of the fellow’s choice. Dr Baća will conduct his project at the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities in Essen (Kulturwissenschaftliches Institut Essen – KWI), one of Germany’s leading institutes for advanced studies in the social sciences and humanities. KWI is an autonomous inter-university research unit within the University Alliance Ruhr, which includes the University of Duisburg-Essen, Ruhr University Bochum, and TU Dortmund University.

During his collaboration with KWI, Dr Baća will carry out a project focused on the study of conspiracy theories as systems of collective meaning-making in conditions of polycrisis, with particular emphasis on the role of alternative epistemologies in their formation and legitimation, as well as on the mechanisms through which conspiratorial ideology—mediated by influencer culture, the wellness industry, and the podcast scene—becomes integrated into mainstream political narratives.

As part of his award-winning research program on civil society and social movements, Dr Baća has authored more than twenty academic publications, including seven articles published in Q1-ranked journals and ten book chapters with leading international publishers. During the past academic year, he became a permanently engaged visiting professor in the European Regional Master’s Programme in Democracy and Human Rights in South East Europe (ERMA), jointly implemented by the University of Bologna and the University of Sarajevo. He is also a previous recipient of the prestigious Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship.

Humboldt fellows gain lifelong membership in one of the most distinguished global research networks, which includes numerous Nobel Prize laureates. This achievement not only confirms the scientific excellence and international recognition of Dr Bojan Baća, but also further affirms the research capacities of the Institute for Advanced Studies of the University of Montenegro and contributes to strengthening the international visibility of Montenegrin science, opening opportunities for long-term cooperation with leading global institutions in the fields of cultural and social research.
