Round table held: Digital transformation - ten-year development of Montenegro
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the University of Montenegro, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics organized a round table titled: Digital Transformation - Ten-Year Development of Montenegro, held on June 7 at the Rectorate of UCG.
The round table was opened by the Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Prof. Dr. Miljan Bigović. Participants in this debate included university professors, representatives of the public sector, industry, and guests from abroad.
Professor Miroslav Bojović from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Belgrade emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the real capabilities of artificial intelligence and the opportunity for our country and small teams to make significant strides in this growing domain.
Bojana Bajić (ReSPA Montenegro), based on her many years of experience in digital projects, proposed the formation of teams with clearly defined goals, collaboration between industry and universities, and highlighted the importance of interoperability and open data.
Professor Aleksandar Popović provided examples of successfully implemented demanding projects, such as signing study contracts via ID cards.
Professor Milo Tomašević from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Belgrade, based on his extensive experience in the education sector, pointed out the pros and cons of the traditional education system and the opportunity to reform the system to meet the challenges of todays times and the availability of questionable quality education "at a click." He emphasized the good practices of focusing education on the process rather than the outcome.
Nikola Mićunović, Director of the Information System Center of the Capital City, spoke about the infrastructure behind services, the need for centralizing data centers and in-house development, and strengthening internal teams to provide better support to citizens. He also emphasized the need to strengthen IT staff in state institutions and local government bodies.
Marina Matijević, a representative from the Ministry of Education, Science, and Innovation, spoke about the challenges in education and how overcoming these problems is greatly aided by the use of the Digital School platform. She highlighted the importance of a consistent legal framework and shared experiences in implementing successful electronic services such as enrollment applications, dormitories, scholarships, a risk assessment system for children who might drop out of school, and integration with PISA testing.
Longtime professor at our faculty, Dr. Goran Šuković, pointed out the gap between education and industry needs, such as teamwork skills.
Prominent scientist in the field of artificial intelligence, Dr. Miguel De Prado, shared his experiences in enhancing academia-industry cooperation from the European ICT-49 project BonsAPPs, and French entrepreneur Dr. Bilal Karabagli presented an example of a successful startup in the specific area of artificial intelligence applications in the aviation industry.
Professor Duško Jokanović recalled the project for the digitization of museum artifacts at the Herzegovina Museum in Bosnia and Herzegovina and drew a parallel between the Montenegrin and Bosnian-Herzegovinian systems.
Professor Milenko Mosurović, from his area of expertise, spoke about the importance of a common vocabulary as a basis for integration. He gave an example of medical ontology and drawing conclusions independently of the domain using a general algorithm. He emphasized the importance of raising the visibility of our facultys activities within institutions.
The event was organized by professors from our faculty, Savo Tomović and Igor Jovančević, while Professor Srđan Kadić moderated this constructive debate.
