Participation of the University of Montenegro in European Wergeland Center Project

The University of Montenegro will participate in the project Preparation of future teachers in the Western Balkans countries in the field of education for democracy and human rights in the period of 2019-2021.

The organizer of the project is the European Wergeland Center, EWC, and financier is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway.

The University of Teacher Education of  Zurich , as the partner of Wargeland Center, as well as twelve universities/faculties from six Balkan countries ( Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Serbia) will participate in the Project. 

Institutes for Education, Institutes and Foundations that deal with this issue will participate in the project activities, next to the universities.

The aim of this three-year project is to contribute to the quality of education of future teachers in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia and Serbia through the cooperation among universities/faculties that educate teachers. The activities of the Project will be focused on the development of new and innovative module from the field of education for citizenship, democracy and human rights. Innovation is primarily reflected in the fact that module will be developed with a constant orientation toards the practical components of teaching.  

The project will enable: the development of new teaching materials; the training-oriented competencies; the support in the development of innovative module which will be compatible with rules and needs of involved universities/faculties; the help in establishing a network of involved schools; the possibility to increase the practice classes or school work; the possibility for establishing the cooperation among institutions of education in different countries, as well as the improvement of cooperation in the regional context.

Given the fact that Faculty of Philosophy and the Faculty of Philology of the University of Montenegro have the most so-called teaching  orientations, and that both faculties have intensive practical training in schools, the Project will be implemented in these two organizational units of the University.

Dijana Vuckovic, Assistant professor, Veselin Micanovic, PhD, and Natasa Krivokapic, PhD, three professor from the Faculty of Philosophy, as well as two professors from the Faculty of Philology (Marijana Cerovic, Assistant professor, and Dusanka Popovic, Assistant professor) will participate in the initial activities. Key acticvities will be implemented in cooperation with schools, so the methodical component is the most important, which is recognized through the selection of team members. Students of both faculties will be involved during the development phase and practical testing of module.
