The Faculty of Philosophy in Niksic, the oldest institution to train high school graduates to be teachers, celebrated 70th anniversary today.

The dean of the Faculty of Philosophy, Goran Barovic, emphasized the importance of that institution and 17.303 students who graduated from this faculty, and that makes “one small town of graduate students in Montenegro”.

Barovic mentioned the developmental process of the institution from the Second World War till today. He reminded that it had been a very difficult period for the establishment of Academy in Niksic on 1 October 1963 with integration of the Teaching Faculty from Niksic and the Pedagogical school from Cetinje.

Since 1977 the Pedagogical Academy was transformed into the Teaching Faculty which was a base for further development of the Faculty of Science and Mathematics in Podgorica and Academy of Arts in Cetinje.

After the department of Marxism and Self-Governing Socialism was transformed into the Department of philosophy and sociology, there was opportunity to rename the Faculty to Faculty of Philosophy which was done in 1988.”-said Barovic.

Later on in 2008 the Faculty for Sport and Physical Education separated from the Faculty and in 2015 the Faculty of Philology did the same.

“The Faculty of Philosophy trained thousands of students who are involved educational process on all continents today. We have families that educate the third generation at our institution,”-said Barovic.

According to his words, there were 1.018 graduate students at the former Pedagogical Academy, at the Teaching Faculty 1.845 and at the Faculty of Philosophy 14.440 which makes 17.303 students in total.

“Education has been the primary area of scientific and pedagogical specialization of the students at this Faculty, but graduate students find their place in all spheres of culture, science, economy, politics and other aspects of social life”-said Barovic.

The Faculty of Philosophy is a complex educational and scientific institution with four institutes and nine study programs and with almost 1.500 students at undergraduate, specialist and postgraduate studies.

“The number and quality of the graduate high school students who are interested in our Faculty continuously grows. Therefore we had the greatest number of candidates during the first admission contest.  “

According to his words, there are around 90 professors, 40 assistants and few foreign professors who are involved in realization of teaching process or engaged as mentors and members of commissions for evaluation of master theses and doctoral dissertations.

Barovic thanked “all professors who worked at this Faculty and made the faculty remarkable; as they were a part of intellectual elite of this country they will be remembered in the history of Montenegrin education”.

The text about improvement of institutions for education of teaching staff written by professor Vucina Zorica was read at this ceremony.

Professors Bojka Djukanovic, Novak Kilibarda, Branko Radojcic, Slobodan Vukicevic and Blagoje Cerovic received appreciation letters.

Ljuba Sekulic Samardzic and Bozo Samardzic together with representatives of some economic organizations received appreciation letters as well.
