Professors of the Faculty of Economics Participated in Conference on Economics CCMNE

The traditional Conference on the Economy of Montenegro 2022, organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro, was held from October 26 to 28 at the Splendid Hotel. The conference, whose theme this year is "Conversations about the future", began with the panel "Migration, (un)employment of young people and the Western Balkans: recommendations for decision makers", and then other panel discussions were held: "The Western Balkans and Europe in 2023. year", "The role of the diaspora in economic development", "EU initiatives and synergies for a smart and green future", "(Mis)match of the education system and the labor market", "Digital transformation of business models", and "How to survive on the market despite crises? ".

The conference brought together numerous representatives of the most successful companies operating in the region, decision makers, young entrepreneurs, professors and students. As in all previous years, professors of the Faculty of Economics also participated in the Conference. Boban Melović, PhD, was a participant in the panel "Mismatch between the education system and the labor market" while Saša Popović, PhD, presented the conclusions and recommendations of the conference.

On that occasion, Professor Melović said that the mismatch between education and the labor market is a serious threat to the growth and development of any economy, especially small ones like Montenegro: "This mismatch also leads to the mismatch between supply and demand, and thus creates insufficient utilization of human potential. This discrepancy is positively correlated with long-term unemployment," he said. According to him, the causes of this state of affairs can be found not only in the educational system, but also in the economy. He said that in Montenegro we currently have a predominantly service economy, which led to the need to develop new knowledge. Professor Melović also presented a project related to capacity building in dual education, which is implemented in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce of Montenegro: "This project represents a model for the development of teaching at higher education institutions, which, in addition to the theoretical, also provides the opportunity to learn while working, i.e. practice. In this way, students strengthen their competences and better prepare for the future labor market," concluded Melović. Prof. Dr. Saša Popović presented conclusions and recommendations to the attendees at the closing of the Conference.
