Science Activity of the Faculty of Economics as Result of Connection between Science and Profession

The scientific activity of the Faculty of Economics of the University of Montenegro is result of a combination of science and profession, which is especially reflected in the Congress of Accountants and Auditors, which the faculty has been organizing for years in cooperation with the Institute of Certified Accountants of Montenegro. This is said by the Vice-Dean for Science of this Faculty, Mijat Jocovic.

"Numerous scientific papers resulted by this congress represent a synergistic effect of work of representatives of science and profession. In addition, we have been partners for many years in organizing International Conference with the Faculty of Economics in Eastern Sarajevo ", Jocović says.

He points out that three strategic goals are dominant within science and research, and those are strengthening research capacities, recognition of the Faculty of Economics in the European Research Area and improvement of scientific research activities of students at level of doctoral and master studies.

These goals are also determined by development strategies of the University of Montenegro and the Faculty of Economics.

"At the Faculty of Economics, there is a quality infrastructure for conducting scientific research work, so all teachers and associates are involved differently," Jocović says.

According to him, significant progress has been made in previous period when it comes to scientific research and publication of papers in prestigious international journals.

"On average, teaching staff publishes more than 50 papers per year, of which a significant number are in renowned journals. This fact makes us pleased, since conditions are being created for advancement for teaching staff in promotion into titles, and an increasing number of teachers meet conditions for mentoring in doctoral studies. Currently, four bilateral scientific research projects are active, in which teachers, associates and doctoral students of the Faculty of Economics participate ", Jocović explains.

He adds that by organizing and participating in numerous international scientific conferences, projects, publishing publications, organizing scientific and professional conferences, the Faculty of Economics achieves its scientific research and teaching-scientific activity and establishes academic and professional cooperation with related institutions.

"By organizing numerous guest lectures by eminent scientists and professors, we contribute to promotion of the Faculty of Economics as a scientific research institution and expand the network of partner institutions. Thus, on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Faculty of Economics, in cooperation with the Central Bank of Montenegro, we organized first visit of the Nobel Prize winner, Norwegian economist Finn Kidland, who gave a lecture on Economic Policy and Growth of Nations. We finished the study year, which we started with a lecture by Nobel Laureate, with a lecture by the world-famous and renowned analyst of international political economy, Professor Francis Fukuyama. He gave a lecture on "Identity Politics and Global Democracy" within the Leadership Academy for Development, which was organized in cooperation with the Center for Democratic Transition (CDT) 2, "Jocovic said. In the middle of December 2017, Jocović adds, the Faculty of Economics UMNE became member of prestigious European accreditation house European Foundation for Management Development (EFMD) that opened door for entering the process of acquiring international EPAS accreditation. "Apart from improving the quality of education and research, this membership provides our lecturers with access to international databases, which is a necessary precondition for conducting research in any field," he concludes. All scientific research activities of the Faculty of Economics are published in the Annual Report in order to actively promote achieved results and encourage teachers, associates and doctoral students for making further efforts.
