Fifth Competition from Sociology for Montenegrin High School Students

Fifth competition from Sociology and Psychology for Montenegrin High School Students on topic ‘’Young and Love’’, where audience and wider public had a chance to see the importance of sociology in addressing the significant and current social phenomena such as love, is held in the organization of Sociology Society of Montenegro, Faculty of Philosophy, the Institute of Sociology and Psychology and study program of Sociology. 

Djordjije Petrovic- PI Gymnasium ‘’Slobodan Skerovic’’ from Podgorica won the first place, while Milo Perovic, from the same school, won the second, in a very strong competition. Jovo Radovic, from the First Vocational School from Niksic, won the third place.

Competitors have shown a great eloquence in the oral exam, as well as higher level of knowledge of sociological knowledge and critical approach to the given topic. They were concerned how with theoretical reflections of the theme of love, as well as attitude of youth towards the meaning of the concept of love as social-psychological phenomena and social relations, and the impact on the society, other social phenomena and processes; different types and social thoughts of love and related terms (family love, martial love, sexual love, friendly love, religious love, polyamory), the role, place and position of love in different social phenomena (media and love, school and love, religion and love, nation and love, gender and love, love for animals); (dis) functions love has on the society (socialization, education and upbringing, humanity, solidarity), representation of love among youth and meanings that youth give to love; the future of love in the human society, and so on.  

Goran Barovic, PhD, the Dean of the faculty of Philosophy opened the Competition,, while Mrs. Ana Ivanovic, representative of the Institute of Education, Mr. Filip Ivanovic, representative of the Ministry of science of Montenegro and Biljana Radovic in front of the Sociology Community of Montenegro welcomed all presented.

Competition was held in two phases: the implementation of written work on topic ‘’ Young and Love’’ in the duration of 20 days. After the selection of the professional commission, 30 competitors have entered in the second round of the competition, while only 13 have entered in the final. Total applied competitors were 73, from 12 cities and 19 high schools. Mini Fair of sociological books where were presented all editions of the Institute of Sociology and Psychology and the Faculty of Philosophy is held in the Hall of the Faculty of Philosophy parallel with the Contest.

Faculty of Philosophy, Niksic, the Ministry of Education, Institute for Education, Montenegrin nut and Directorate for Media have helped to provide awards for this Competition, that organizer was especially grateful for.
