Ecological Movement from Novi Sad has organized the 23rd International Eco-Conference and 13th International Conference on Environmental Protection - Urban and Rural Settlements in the amphitheater of the Institute for Nature Protection of Vojvodina in the last week of September 2019. This year, thee co-organizers of this significant environmental event were the University of Novi Sad; Russian State Agrarian University of Moscow; Institute of Field and Vegetable Crops and Paster Institute from Novi Sad; Legambiente Italia; National Environmental Organization, Rome, Italy.

Academician Rudolf Kastori, chaired the Conference, the academician of three Academies of Science of Vojvodina, Hungary and Russia, the Chairman of the Scientific Committee composed of eminent international experts, among whom the Montenegrin representatives Velibor Spalevic, PhD, and Goran Skataric, PhD, participated in the work of Scientific Committee.

A large number of papers submitted from all continents have been presented in four major sections of this international Conference: 1) Environment: air, water, land, biosphere; 2) Technical and technological aspects of environmental protection (eco-engineering); 3) Social aspects of environmental protection (sociological, health, cultural, educational); 4) Economic and legal aspects of environmental protection.

It was a very important meeting of experts from different fields, who have shared and embedded their knowledge and experiences in foundations of dealing with the multiple environmental threats that mark the 21st century. The conclusions brought at the Conference, were not oblige, but numerous attitudes and important warnings were given to decision makers.

The participants of the Conference emphasized in their presentations that man should be in the center of concern for sustainable development, how it was said in several presentations from this meeting, and that we all have right to healthy and productive life in harmony with nature. States have the sovereign right to exploit their own resources in accordance with their own environmental and development policies, ensuring them that no damage will be caused to the environment of other states or areas beyond national jurisdiction.

The participants of the meeting said that it is necessary to strengthen the public awareness globally and locally on climate change issues. Desertification is inseparable from the issue of global warming, water scarcity, drought, deforestation and fire.

In conversation with geographer Marko Cabarkapa, who recently graduated at the Department of Geography at the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Montenegro, we learned that the research of geographical factors as determinant of defining land and water in some parts of Montenegro was created during 2018 and 2019. Professors from the Department of Geography worked in a team with student geographers: Nikola Vujacic, Ksenija Lukovac, Vileta Gruban, Ivana Popovic, Milivoje Dendic, Dragan Ljesevic, Vladan Babovic, under the mentorship of Professor Velibor Spalevic, PhD.

The effective closing presentation presented by Spalevic, PhD, in the name of the team of researchers aroused the interest of a number of scientists presented. This resulted with the invitation for cooperation of Montenegrin researchers with the University of Economics Academy from Novi Sad. Professor Marko Caric, PhD, the Rector of the University of Economics Academy said that he would do his best to formalize cooperation with colleagues from Montenegro on the issues raised at this Conference.

The fact that the overall aim is the promotion of measures that lead to a sustainable future, preparing for the challenges of the next century is emphasized as the main message of the Conference.
