Texts by Dr. Svetlana Racanović published in the catalog of the Marina Abramović exhibition

Svetlana Racanović, an art historian and theorist and a lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cetinje, is the author of two texts published in the multilingual catalog accompanying the major international retrospective exhibition of artist Marina Abramović. The exhibition started in London from the Royal Academy of Arts in October 2023, then opened at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam in March 2024, and will be hosted by Kunsthaus in Zurich in 2025, and the Kunstforum in Vienna in 2026, with further presentations of the exhibition planned outside of Europe.

Other texts are authored by: Karen Archey, curator of contemporary art at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam; Adrian Heathfield, professor of performance and visual culture at the University of Roehampton in London; Andrea Tarsia, head of exhibitions at the Royal Academy of Arts in London; Devin Zuber, professor of American studies, religion, and literature at Berkeley, and George F. Dole, professor at the Center for Swedenborgian Studies, Berkeley.

In the text The Brutal Eloquence of Flesh and Blood – Early Performance of 1970s, Svetlana Racanović interprets the early, heroic performances of Marina Abramović, radical, brutal, revolutionary artistic interventions, the "pain and blood" performances that represented iconic works of countercultural artistic strategies and practices of the 70s.

In the text Balkan Baroque – Death Wish Converted, Racanović focuses on the complex work, multimedia installation, and performance Balkan Baroque from 1997, in which Abramović, in an act of a kind of artistic therapy, untangles and "heals" the dramatic nexus of Balkan geography, history, and biology, within her dominant "experimental protocol" of "Cleaning the House": the purification of the body and healing from the past.

Svetlana Racanović also published a book in 2019 titled Marina Abramović – From Cut to Suture by Geopoetika.
