The team from the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Montenegro won the award in the "Public Buildings" category during the Third Days of Architecture, organized by the Chamber of Professional Architects. The award was granted for the reconstruction project of module C of the technical faculties building in Podgorica, realized by the authors Prof. Dr. Svetlana Perović, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sanja Savić, Dr. Jelena Bajić Šestović, Dr. Marija Milikić, and Mr. Nikolina Sekulović.

The project was evaluated by an international jury consisting of Saša Randić (Randić and Associates, Rijeka), Špela Videčnik (Ofis Architects, Ljubljana), Vedran Pedišić (Sangrad+AVP, Zagreb), Andrea Rossi (A-fact, Milan), and Giovanni Sanna (A-fact, Milan).

The conceptual design for the technical faculties laboratories was initiated by the Rector of the University of Montenegro, Prof. Dr. Vladimir Božović, as part of the celebration of the University’s 50th anniversary. The unfavorable conditions of the complex, especially the laboratory block, caused by decades of use and lack of investment in reconstruction, highlighted the urgent need for renovation and revitalization.

Maintaining the original architectural outcome, or rather “emphasizing” its inherited value, the development of a minimalist and modern vertical extension visually separated from the existing structure was highly praised by the international jury. This intervention, geometrically defined within an approximate 3000m² footprint, features a transparent facade and flexible steel construction, integrating carefully designed interior spaces tailored to the needs of the three technical faculties and the University of Montenegro.

To promote Montenegros architectural scene and establish a platform for showcasing outstanding architectural ideas, the Days of Architecture introduced an annual award for the first time this year, with six categories: residential, commercial, public, tourism buildings, sports and recreation facilities, and interior design. The competition received a total of 80 conceptual designs, with the expert jury nominating 23 projects for awards after a thorough evaluation.

The Third Days of Architecture were held from November 22 to 24, 2024, at the Music Center of Montenegro in Podgorica.
