The jubilee 25th YUCOMAT international conference, which takes place in Herceg Novi at the beginning of September, ended with good news for our Faculty. Minea Kapidžić, BSc Chemical Technology, who graduated this June, won the prize for the best poster presentation under the title "Assessing the charge storage capability of hydrothermally treated biomass-derived activated carbon in different electrolyte formulations". Mineas presented research started as part of a volunteer activity in the laboratory for Physical Chemistry and Electrochemistry, and was completed through involvement in the NATO SPS project SUPERCAR "Carbon-based batteries and supercapacitors".

At the conference, research from their masters theses was also presented by the masters students in chemical technology: Slađana Kovačević (Mechanochemical Synthesis of Ammonium-Iminodiacetato-Dithiocarbamate: An Environmentally Friendly Approach), Nina Jovović (Sustainable synthesis of Ni(II) complex with 3,5- pyrazoledicarboxylic acid as ligand via mechanochemistry) and Kristina Lalatović (Exploring the potential of olive mill waste for the production of energy storage materials), and Dr. Jana Mišurović, teaching associate at FMT with the work "Full cell sodium storage performance of biomass-derived nongraphitizable carbon".

The YUCOMAT conference brings together the greatest scientists in the field of materials science. We are particularly pleased that our students had the opportunity to present their work at such an important gathering and receive constructive comments and advice for continuing their research. We are happy that Mineas presentation was awarded and we wish her luck in her future work.
