Best Scientists of CSA Conference from Canada and Slovenia Presented

Dasa Prus, from the University of Ljubljana, is chosen for the best young scientist and Rozelin Okeh from Memorial University in Newfoundland, Canada for the best woman in science at 16th International Scientific Conference of Montenegrin Sports Academy held in Cavtat, Croatia at the beginning of April. We interviewed them for the university webpage and on this occasion we present them closer to the academic community.

Dasa Prus is master of Physical Education and PhD student at the University of Ljubljana. She is thankful on the award for young scientist, which it considers a stimulating, especially since the beginning of scientific way in science, a conference is considered as great opportunity for young researchers to start to represent their work. – This is like breaking the ice, of course, this is one very huge achievement and the opportunity to show your potential, Dasa says.

She presented herself at oral topic ‘‘Knowledge and Use of Nutritional Supplements among Hip Hop Dancers’’ at Conference in Dubrovnik. Dasa studies the field of dancing, especially modern dances, because this field is not explored enough, and hip hop dancers are very neglected population in medical researches. We asked the best scientist of the Conference why sports science is tempting.

- Many huge things may be included and I think that young researchers are curious in terms of being able to see ‘’ behind the curtain’’ and who stands behind the athletes. I suppose we all forget that the athletes are only performers and that behind them there are many people who work for their improvement. I always wondered what ‘’ behind the curtain’’ means  and that is my passion, not only in the science of dance or in the field of dance, but in other sports, reveals the best young scientist at this year CSA Conference.

Rozelin Okeh from Memorial University in Newfoundland, Canada, who is devoted to the research in sports tourism is chosen for the best woman in science.

- I know the topic was about the sport and physical education, but the fact that I come from the field of tourism, I succeed to expose the topic from sports hunting tourism and that was the topic my team based on- that is sustainable sports hunting, especially moose hunting in Newfoundland, where I come from. I am a researcher and I really like to research. My strongest sides are in tourism and eco-tourism and I can say that I am surprised because I won the award for female researcher- professor Okeh admits.

Professor Roselin especially appreciates the stimulating of female researchers, what is the one of CSA Conference goals, next to the enthusiasm of the Conference organization and hospitality she encountered in Croatia.

-I am especially thankful because my efforts were recognized, research work, and the work in general, and this prize will help me to provide more for further conferences that await us. This shows how women are recognized, awarded and how respected they are at these conferences. I believe this is a very good initiative of the Conference organizer, to be here not to recognize only young researchers, but also forthcoming female researchers who should be awarded. This is a big opportunity for me to improve my researchers and career at my University, professor Okeh says.

More than 222 participants from 42 world countries were presented at the Conference in Dubrovnik.  Stevo Popovic, PhD, the Dean of the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education of Niksic, said one very interesting detail that numerically fewer women than men participated in Conference, but he believes that the award for the best woman in science will change that trend in the future.

Organizers of the Conference are the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education of the University of Montenegro and 12 partner faculties from EU countries and the region, next to the Montenegrin Sports Academy.
