Students of the University of Montenegro Changed Their Diet in Time of Covid 19 Measures

The most comprehensive research to date has been completed at the University of Montenegro, on a sample of 1704 students from all university units, examining how students spend their leisure time at home, starting with implementation of temporary measures against the spread of COVID 19.

This research, with special emphasis on active time devoted to physical exercise due to restricted movement and staying at home, was conducted by an anonymous online questionnaire by professors of the Faculty of Sport and Physical Education,Dragan Krivokapić, Asst. Prof., Danilo Bojanic, Assistant Professor and Asst. Milovan Ljubojevic, PhD.

"Comprehensive data processing that is yet to come will provide a more objective insight into the ways of leisure of students of the University of Montenegro during the current period," Professor Krivokapic said, pointing to some of the first results obtained by this survey.

According to him, the interviewed students of the University of Montenegro found majority of ways to practice at home, to a greater or lesser extent, in accordance with their previous coaching habits and experience, as well as with the space available.

"The prolonged sitting time with numerous internet, TV content, communication through social networks and the like, resulted in their insight into the harmfulness of this kind of free time which, according to the answers in the questionnaire, is reflected in the violation of proper body posture and the expressed need for physical activity, " Professor Krivokapicsaid.

He pointed out that most students responded that they wanted to devote significantly more time to physical exercise after completely eliminating danger of spread of coronaviruses and the abolition of temporary restraint measures.

Main motives for such a decision were: "I will be in better physical condition", "I will be healthier / I", "I will lose weight", "I will have better concentration for everyday duties", "I will look more attractive", "I will have more confidence" etc. , "Professor Krivokapic replies.

Survey, he added, also provided interesting answers related to changing diet in the current period.

"Considering that students have spent most of their time in their parents' home / apartment with other families, they stated that they now eat fruits and vegetables, cooked meals, meat and meat products, milk and dairy products more than in normal circumstances, which is mostly in accordance with the principles of healthy eating, "Professor Krivokapic said.

These are, as he concludes, only some of the data, but a more thorough analysis will give recommendations to raise awareness about promoting a healthier lifestyle of young people.
