MONUSEN

The MONUSEN Center for Underwater Sensor Networks was established at the University of Montenegro through a Horizon Europe Twinning project. It represents the first organized research and innovation infrastructure in the country dedicated to the development of underwater sensor networks and related marine technologies.

The Center aims to:

  • enhance the scientific excellence and international visibility of the University of Montenegro in the field of underwater communications and sensor networks,
  • enable the transfer of knowledge and technologies from leading European institutions, including project partners – the University of Newcastle, University of Zagreb FER, and CNR-INM Italy,
  • create conditions for interdisciplinary research and innovation in the blue economy,
  • engage young researchers and students through trainings, summer schools, joint experiments, Master’s and PhD studies.

The MONUSEN Center is developing as an innovation and research hub in Montenegro, with a focus on:

  • development and evaluation of communication protocols and modulation schemes for underwater acoustic networks,
  • design and implementation of security solutions in underwater communication systems,
  • processing and analysis of data collected by underwater sensor networks and other technologies,
  • research of methods for control of autonomous surface and underwater vehicles,
  • advanced signal processing techniques in complex aquatic environments,
  • development of smart solutions for applications in aquaculture, the security sector, environmental protection, maritime industry, and energy.

In this way, the Center brings together expertise in communications, artificial intelligence, electronics, and marine robotics, creating a foundation for the application of underwater technologies in science, industry, and environmental protection.
